Barbara Martin
Barbara and her husband came to Oroville 25 years ago. They enjoyed boating and the natural beauty of the area. Later on, though, their retirement home became more of a burden than a blessing. "With my kids living out of the immediate area," Barbara says, "it was always work whenever they came to visit."
Country Crest seemed to be the perfect alternative for Barbara, although she admits to being nervous on her first trip to the lovely Dining Room. She even took a book along so she wouldn't feel alone. As soon as she sat down, though, a neighbor noticed her and invited her to join her table. Barbara now has a close circle of friends at Country Crest, and it all began that very first evening. Family visits are a joy now. Barbara hosted her whole family during a recent holiday. "We had our meals in the Country Crest Dining Room, of course!" she says with a smile.
Everyone appreciates the lovely guest apartments that provide privacy while keeping loved ones close. Barbara says that in the past they've had to reserve hotel rooms, but this is much more convenient. Barbara stays busy between family visits. Her family has the added comfort of knowing that Country Crest's Continuing Care program will always be there for her and for any future health issues. In the meantime, there are trips to city concerts, in-house lectures and a renewed interest in one of her old passions – bowling! Barbara sums it up this way: "I do everything!"
